Note from the Instructor

Starting a martial art takes courage to step into the unknown. Especially for a style that’s not mainstream in the area, such as our Soo Bahk Do martial art, it brings together people who are curious with an open mind to explore the possibilities. To turn up week after week and month after month in 2024, demonstrates your perseverance for improved health and fitness, including your personal development. After all, martial arts offers more than just physical improvements. Soo Bahk Do, in particular, offers a sustainable pathway for improved wellbeing. But, this takes time. It also takes a commitment to the process.

In my 14 years as a martial artist, I can say for certainty that the journey will shape and positively transform you / your child in many ways. Perhaps you’ve started to notice some of these things already, or perhaps you’re currently waiting. Things will happen with time. I take this moment to genuinely thank you for your / your child’s attendance and perseverance so far this year.

Here’s May’s summary:

Student of the Month

Oscar: Student of the Month, May 2024

This month, Oscar received our Student of the Month Award for May 2024!

Oscar was presented with the certificate because he has shown himself to be an excellent role model for what it means to be a martial artist!

He is very well behaved and gives his best effort at every class.

Oscar has shone through with his leadership potential over the past few months, by attending the Little Ninjas class to support his younger brother and other little kids as a role model. It’s very clear that the other Little Ninjas look up to Oscar and respect him.

He has also shown initiative to help us put the chairs away between the class changeover. This demonstrates his willingness to support and sessions and being mindful of the space and what’s needed to be done instead of waiting to be asked to do it.

We look forward to seeing Oscar at the grading in June!

Dojang X Featured in Abingdon Town Magazine!

Our Easter holiday competition in April was really fun, with further compliments from martial artists around the world for the creativity and effort that our members gave to make their submission!

We are further delighted that Abingdon Town Magazine published our photos and asked for an article about us in their May edition!

This was great for many reasons, including:

  • Showcasing the skills of our members
  • Giving readers a feel about our family-friendly martial arts club
  • Raising local awareness of our niche art: Soo Bahk Do

A Quick Visit to France Moo Duk Kwan

As an instructor, it’s always great to find an opportunity to experience other Soo Bahk Do classes and expand one’s own skills to bring back.

Sabrina visited Paris and trained with Mollet SBN. It was a great experience with some fun teaching inspiration to bring back!

For example, we immediately applied the jump kicking drill taught by the France MDK Youth Leader…and our members seemed to enjoy it!

Time to say goodbye

This month was our final month training at Sutton Courtenay.

We’ve been very honoured to serve the local community and grateful that many from this class have transferred to another of our training locations.
