Hi! I’m Sabrina Mistry, the Head Instructor at Dojang X!

Growing up, I didn’t enjoy exercise or sport. I wasn’t naturally good at them and wasn’t encouraged or supported to improve. My inactive lifestyle made me unfit, overweight and lacking in confidence.  It was only when I was a young adult that I realised that I needed to take ownership of my life.

Training at the gym was great, but I wanted something that was more than machines, sets and reps. I wanted something that would challenge me to constantly improve and to motivate me to exercise for the long term.  My search and general interest in anime and video games led me to trial a Soo Bahk Do class. I’ve now been training for over 10 years in the martial art!

I didn’t anticipate the level of personal transformation that would take place over the years.  Fat loss, self-defence skills and developing athleticism are the general areas that naturally spring to mind.  Even as an adult beginner, however, there’s a significant personal development journey on the road to achieving the black belt.  I found my confidence internally and around others increase significantly, to the extent that I was often asked to assist with teaching.  I also developed friendships locally, nationally and globally, that better educated me about different cultures and lifestyles.  Both of these are vital in today’s world.
